Supporting Moms With Their 母乳喂养 Goals
The 孩子友好 Hospital Initiative (BFHI) helps hospitals give 母乳喂养 mothers the information, 信心, and skills they need to successfully start and continue 母乳喂养 their babies.
这是一个全球性的项目 sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). This program encourages and recognizes hospitals and birthing centers that offer the highest level of care for lactation.

作为一个婴儿友好设施, 大发娱乐 has created the best possible environment for successful 母乳喂养. Evidence shows that 母乳喂养 is the normal way to feed a baby. Exclusive 母乳喂养 for the first six months—in other words, only using breastmilk to feed your baby until she's six months old—is the goal. But any amount of 母乳喂养/breastmilk will offset the risks of using formula products to feed an infant.
Since committing to the 孩子友好 initiative in 2003, our women’s and children’s staff, 护士, and physicians have dedicated themselves to offering support and resources to our 母乳喂养 families, both in and out of the hospital. Find lactation rooms at University of Utah Health locations.
10 Steps to Successful 母乳喂养
Our women’s and children’s staff, 护士, and physicians use guidelines from the 10 Steps to Successful 母乳喂养 to provide 孩子友好 care to our patients:
- Maintain a written 母乳喂养 policy that is routinely communicated to all health care staff.
- Train all health care staff in the skills they need to implement this policy.
- Inform all pregnant women about the benefits and management of 母乳喂养.
- Help mothers start 母乳喂养 within one hour of birth.
- Show mothers how to breastfeed and how to maintain lactation, even if they are separated from their infants.
- Give infants no food or drink other than breast milk, unless medically indicated.
- Practice rooming in: Let mothers and infants stay together 24 hours a day. (For infants who must stay in the late pre-term nursery, we offer twilight rooms so that mothers can still breastfeed their infants.)
- Encourage unrestricted feedings.
- Educate families on the risks of pacifiers or artificial nipples to 母乳喂养 babies.
- Help establish 母乳喂养 support groups and refer mothers to them when they leave the hospital or clinic.

Mountain West Mothers' 母乳银行 screens, 收集, and distributes donor human breast milk for premature and sick babies in Utah and Idaho. Nursing mothers from Utah who'd like to donate their breast milk can visit our center to donate.
